LED torch (flashlight) conversion – design

December 1, 2010 Leave a comment

I have this brinkmann 3xLED flashlight. I bought it in a walmart in the USA a few years ago for next to nothing. It isn’t very bright but the body is completely aluminium and the overall build quality is pretty good. I’ve been wanting to supercharge it for a while now so i bought some 3watt star LEDs from bestshop2008hk on ebay. My idea is to use one of these in the flashlight. I’ve put together a simple design to help accomplish this, including a way of heat sinking the LED to the torch case. Read more to see the design.

Update – Electronics Tools

September 10, 2010 Leave a comment

Since its taken me a while to get the next stage of my bench power supply project finished, I decided it might be an idea to post another electronics guide. I’ve added a brief article to the electronics guide section on basic tools used for electronics. It will be expanded on later to include other useful tools as well as more advanced tools

I’ve tried to include links where further information can be found and where some of the tools can be bought in the UK, alongside a brief description. I’ll slowly expand these links and hopefully you will find it useful.

I’ve added a new section to the electronic guides pages. There’s now a section on capacitors and I’ve cleaned up the page on resistors.

My new chips arrived today to replace the ones I burnt so look forward to an update to my project log soon.
